Teams of weekend warriors take over this grade school every Sunday; armed with knee braces, wrist pads and receding hairlines. For most, their best basketball is behind them.  For others, the St. Vincent de Paul gymnasium offers the largest stage they will step on in the basketball careers.

For five years now, Peoria’s Sunday Basketball League has offered up the highest quality of amateur men’s basketball the area has to offer. Former pros, Division I athletes and area high school standouts suffer through tryouts, hangovers and the effects of aging to hang in this competitive arena.

Former Bradley Basketball players Daniel Ruffin and Brian Lavin are just two of the many former college players in the league. After his game Sunday, I caught up with Ruffin and the leagues co-founder & president, Andrew McMorrow, to ask them what this league means to them.
